Nudes
Here you will find all of my finished textile nudes. The majority of my first pieces were produced with a quilted relief - contemporary Tivaevae. Tivaevae is a form of pictorial quilting popular in the Cook Islands. You will find a link to a Tivaevae site on the links page, should you wish to know more. All of the works start life as a charcoal/pencil sketch, drawn to size before application to the silk. The work is for sale unless otherwise stated.
Nude #11
The attitude of the figure and the running, bleeding colour gives this image a sense of sadness and emotion.

Nude #7
My first female nude. Using the same idea as nudes #4 - #6. Silver thread was used in the background, this was to give the idea of preciousness. A word I would ascribe to the female gender.
Methods: Hand painted silk, clear gutta, free machine embroidery and quilting.

Nude #6
The last of this run. Much more sensual in appearance.
Methods: Hand painted silk, clear gutta, free machine embroidery and quilting.

Nude #5
To me the best of this run. The image doesn't immediately translate as a human form, and requires some further looking to discern it.
Methods: Hand painted silk, clear gutta, free machine embroidery and quilting.

Nude #4
With this collection I wanted to reduce the shaded areas to basic shapes. Essentially cutting down the nude to basic blocks of colour. This was done using a clear gutta as a barrier for the warm black dye. Warm black separates slightly upon application. This gives a great oil like effect to the pieces.
Methods: Hand painted silk, clear gutta, free machine embroidery and quilting.

Nude #3 "Jason"
Here I discovered my difficulty with representing the human face. I elected to use only the most basic of lines to maintain the slightly abstract look and prevent overworking the piece.
Methods: Hand painted silk, free machine embroidery and quilting.

Nude #2
From the first three, this is my favourite. For myself, the bleeding of the colour (particularly around the head) works well to produce the softness I wanted from the work.
Methods: Hand painted silk, free machine embroidery and quilting.

Nude #1
The first of my nudes and so far the most provocative. A full frontal, totally unashamed male nude torso. The colours for the first three were inspired by a popular '80s eyeshadow two colour set.
Methods: Hand painted silk, free machine embroidery and quilting.
